Historia Medica — Release Notes
Version 0.9 — public beta
The first public version of Historia Medica, released as a beta ahead of 1.0. It is feature-complete; the beta collects feedback before the Mac App Store release.
Requirements: a Mac with Apple silicon or an Intel processor, running macOS 12 Monterey or later. One universal download runs natively on both.
Historia Medica is a private medical-records app for Mac. It keeps your family's medical history — visits, medications, lab results, vitals and more — in one place, stored only on your devices. It is the successor for people who used the retired MyMedical app.
Updates in this beta
- Build 9: Historia Medica is now published by Dany Innovations LLC, shown in About Historia Medica and the copyright. Beta testers who start using the beta by November 15, 2026 get Historia Medica 1.x free when it is released — no key or account needed (details).
- Build 8: Report a bug and Request a feature buttons at the bottom of the sidebar (hover over them for a description; also in the Help menu) open a short form on historiamedica.app with your app and macOS versions already filled in. Afterwards you can browse the public lists of known bugs and feature requests and add a "Me too" to the ones that affect you.
- Build 7: Import MyMedical patients into a database you already use: when File → Import from MyMedical finds patients that aren't in your database, Import as new records adds them with all their records, next to what you have. Patients already imported from the same file are skipped, so nothing is duplicated.
- Build 6: Import MyMedical archives (
.mymedicalarchive, from MyMedical's "Create an Archive"), including the.cpgzcopy macOS Archive Utility makes when it can't open one. - Build 5: A new app icon: an H for Historia whose crossbar is a heartbeat.
- Build 4 — your feedback, part one:
- To Do: a new section for tasks, follow-ups and reminders, with progress tracking and notifications at the time you choose.
- Visits: a calendar to schedule upcoming visits, separate Upcoming and Past visits, the physician chosen from your Physicians list, a time, and notes.
- Doctor visit summary: choose the doctor you're seeing to include your questions for that visit and what you asked last time, plus suggested questions generated from your own records, personal notes and your medical history (diagnoses, surgeries, hospital stays, recent illnesses, family history). Prescriptions on file were removed in favor of current medications.
- Medications and prescriptions are one list, with current medications first and past ones below. Type a generic or brand name to get suggestions, record the brand under "Commonly known as", pick the frequency from a list, and choose the prescribing physician and pharmacy. Existing prescriptions are merged into their medication automatically.
- Attachments on every record: add pictures, scans, PDFs or documents to any record — an EKG strip on a test, the image of an X-ray. The Media page collects them all, grouped by where they came from or by file type.
- Pick lists everywhere: common conditions, illnesses, surgical procedures, allergies and reactions as you type; physicians, hospitals, labs and pharmacies from your Care team lists (add a new one right from the field); drop-downs for physician specialty and gender, place type, contact relationship and code status.
- Profile: an employment history with the current employer; the patient's photo in the sidebar; your allergies shown with a link to the Allergies page; an explanation of code status. Unsaved changes can be cancelled, and leaving a page or closing a form with unsaved changes asks whether to save them.
- Family history: relationship from a fixed list, Living/Deceased status, and one row per condition with the age it started.
- Hospitals are kept in Labs and clinics (now "Hospitals, labs, clinics"); surgeries, hospital stays and blood tests pick from it. Insurance plans can name the employer that provides them.
- Your database is backed up automatically before it is upgraded.
- Build 3: Opens the patient you viewed last instead of the first one alphabetically. Built on the latest Electron, with current security updates; macOS 12 Monterey or later is now required.
- Build 2: The retired app's name is now spelled correctly throughout: MyMedical.
Highlights
- Your records stay on your Mac. No account, no cloud, no tracking. Everything lives in a single database file you control.
- Bring your history from MyMedical. Import your MyMedical data directly — including every lab result value and attachment thumbnails — or recover details into an existing database without overwriting anything you've edited.
- See trends at a glance. A Dashboard with your latest vitals, trend lines, medications, conditions and recent activity.
- Built for macOS. Native translucent sidebar, light and dark mode, menu bar commands and keyboard shortcuts, printable summaries and on-device voice dictation.

- Clinical: Visits, Diagnoses, Illnesses, Symptoms
- Medications: Medications (with prescription details), Supplements
- Tests and labs: Tests, Blood tests, Upcoming tests, Immunizations, X-rays and imaging

- Every list: newest first, instant filter across all columns, click a row to edit, ⌘N to add, Delete key to remove (with confirmation).
Lab results and vitals
- Blood tests: record lab panels marker by marker from a catalog of common markers, with units and reference ranges filled in and High / Low / Critical flags set automatically. Markers from the previous panel are preselected.
- Trends: chart any marker over time with its normal range shaded.
- Tests: results entered per test with reference ranges, for blood work, heart tests, imaging and more.
- Vitals with trend charts and target ranges: blood pressure and pulse, blood glucose with meal context, HbA1c, weight with automatic BMI from your height, temperature and oxygen saturation.
- HbA1c → Import from Tests copies A1C results already recorded as tests.
- Upcoming tests with test name, date, ordering physician, location and preparation notes, soonest first; tests in the next 60 days appear on the Dashboard. Imported from MyMedical too.
- X-rays and imaging with body part (common ones suggested), facility, findings and follow-up.
Dashboard and summaries
- Dashboard: latest value of each vital with a sparkline, change since the previous reading and range flags; active medications; refills, expirations, expiring immunizations and scheduled tests coming up; recent visits, tests and immunizations; pinned allergies, current medications and conditions.
- Doctor visit summary: a one-page document of allergies, current medications and prescriptions to print or save as PDF (⌘P). Prints cleanly in dark mode and across multiple pages.
- Search across every record of a patient, grouped by section with matches highlighted (⌘F).
Import from MyMedical
- Reads a MyMedical database file — or finds it inside a folder you choose — without modifying it.
- Converts all record types, including dates of birth, diagnosis and illness dates, physician notes and every lab result value (stored by MyMedical in a mix of XML and binary formats).
- Creates Blood tests panels, HbA1c, blood pressure, glucose and X-ray entries from imported lab results so they can be charted.
- Imports attachments with thumbnails, copying the original files when they are found next to the database.
- Recover data (Settings → MyMedical) fills in details missing from an earlier import: preview every change first, a backup is made before applying, nothing you've edited is ever overwritten, and running it again changes nothing.
- Placeholder dates stored by MyMedical (such as the year 1007) are recognized and left blank.
Units and preferences
- Choose kg or lb, cm or feet and inches, °C or °F, mg/dL or mmol/L for glucose, % or mmol/mol for HbA1c, and mg/dL or mmol/L for cholesterol and triglycerides. Values are converted for display and entry; recorded values are never altered.
- Defaults follow your region. Preferences are stored with your data, so they move with your database.
- Appearance: System, Light or Dark (Settings, View menu or sidebar).
Designed for the Mac
- Native translucent sidebar, system font, Apple-style sheets, alerts and menus, full dark mode on every screen.
- Complete menu bar: Settings ⌘, · New Record ⌘N · Save ⌘S · Find ⌘F · Print ⌘P · Back Up ⇧⌘B · Go to sections ⌘1–⌘6 · Help ⌘?
- On-device voice dictation in every text field, using macOS speech recognition. Audio never leaves your Mac: if your Mac can't recognize your language on-device, dictation is turned off rather than sent to a server.
- Built-in Help for every page, searchable, with a ? button on each page, plus a printable User's Guide.
Your data, under your control
- Back up a complete copy of your database anywhere (⇧⌘B), open a backup or a database from another Mac, and export a patient's records as JSON.
- An automatic backup is saved before every import, recovery or database replacement.
- Databases are checked before they are opened; MyMedical files are recognized and routed to the importer.
- A database last used with a newer version of Historia Medica is never opened by an older one, protecting your records from damage.
- Help → Show My Data in Finder shows exactly where your records are.
Known limitations in this beta
- Mac only for now. Mac App Store availability, then Windows 11, iPhone and Android versions are planned, in that order.
- English only.
- No sync between devices yet. Move data between Macs with Back Up and Open Database.
- MyMedical attachments whose original files are not found are imported as thumbnails only.
- Importing lab results from PDF reports is not available yet.
